Pure Michigan

On Monday July 16 we made our way into Brighton, MI to visit Wendy’s former classmate Lindsay. Brighton was small but charming and we had a great dinner at The Wooden Spoon.

Next we made our way to Kalamazoo to visit Western Michigan University and Wendy’s old professor Dr. Malott, who gave Wendy the opportunity to share some wisdom with the incoming behaviour analysis Master’s class. Naturally, we dropped into Bell’s Brewery, where we had dinner with Wendy’s friend Kendra and her family.

This is where we live now.

Before heading North we made a stop in Paw Paw to meet up with Wendy’s friend Lauren. In Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, we cooked our first campfire dinner.

The next morning we took the scenic drive through the dunes and then completed the “Dune Climb”, which sadly made zero mention of Frank Herbert.

Dune climb.

After grabbing some Michigan cherries outside Traverse City, we had some great pizza and beer at The Filling Station (thanks Lindsay!), then took a scenic drive north to the Upper Peninsula along Lake Michigan. Before heading back to Canada, we grabbed a pasty for lunch in Sault Ste-Marie (MI).

Michigan Pasty. Like Cornish pasty, but American sized. Plus gravy, cause… America.
